About:

Oakdale, N.Y.- Dowling College partnered with the American Cancer Society for the first annual Eastern Long Island American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. The walk was designed to help the caring people of Long Island raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

The event was more than just a walk, it was a place for the community to talk about past experiences and to help educate those who have never been affected by cancer. It is also a place for survivors to celebrate their triumph and for families to come together for an important causeSince 1993, nearly 7 million walkers have raised more than $400 million to help fight breast cancer through participation in these noncompetitive, three to five mile events which are held all across the United States.

The Brookhaven walk had a tremendous turnout as Dowling students, faculty, athletes and alumni joined their fellow neighbors in the community in showing support for the great cause. Over 120 teams and 700 participants raised almost $60,000 for the fight against breast cancer.

Dowling athletics showed it is as committed to community work as it is to on the field play as many of the Golden Lions donned pink and helped support the Long Island community in their cause to fight breast cancer. Not only did the Golden Lions walk but many of them also volunteered their time to help calibrate this event.
